* Here is a paper about the social forces at play in the construction and reconstructions of Avery Fisher Hall (formerly Philharmonic Hall), part of Lincoln Center in New York.  I argue that the question of acoustics as a science masked ideological issues at stake in the appearance and sound of the hall.

* Here are my notes on Cristian Mungiu's 4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days, which won the 2007 Palm d'Or.  I claim that attention to ambient sound (the film has no musical soundtrack) is key to understanding the characters and their relationships.  On the other hand, the characters and plot can be read as metaphors for our own potential relationships with sound environments.
