Sound Sculptures & Installations
* I made this hour-long, looping Sound Installation for a performance at The Tank. Some of the sounds will be familiar to subway-riding New Yorkers. The Tank's interim location on 42nd Street is ideal for this installation because the heavy traffic outside bleeds into the performance space.
* This is a proposal I've written for a sculpture called Cellular Chimes. The sound of cell phones vibrating on table tops and other surfaces has become a new kind of negative noise. I am interested in a sculpture that uses this noise as music, the creation of which is left open to the public.
* This is another short proposal for a sound installation project to take place in subway stations throughout New York. A little quixotic, perhaps, but it is an interesting idea as well as starting point for rethinking one's experience of the subway. I claim that the relatively quiet sounds of the turnstiles are the first step in our acceptance of the poor sound quality of the subways stations.
